Legal Services Bill
To establish the new regulatory framework 'to put the interest of the customer first', on 24th May 2006 the Government published its Draft Legal Services Bill outlining the following:
- the creation of an independent (from Government and front line regulators) Legal Services Board that would act as oversight body to provide a simplified regulation framework.
- the establishment of new independent complaints handling body: the Office for Legal Complaints
- permitting Alternative Business Structures (ABS) that allow lawyers and non-layers to work together under one roof.
